A potential apartment development which would have brought a four story twenty seven unit apartment complex to downtown Knoxville will not be proceeding as planned according to Iowa State Savings Bank President Bob Wims.

Wims tells KNIA/KRLS News the developer of the project did not exercise the option to purchase the land. In May the developer asked the Knoxville City Council to amend an ordinance allowing the rezoning of three properties that were to be bought for the project. Knoxville City Manager Aaron Adams tells KNIA/KRLS News the developer will not be able to proceed with the project which comes as a disappointment to the city. Adams says through the housing study it was determined there is a need for housing in Knoxville so with this project not proceeding it makes it even more disappointing. Adams adds, the city made every effort to make this project work and the city is always open to more development.
