One of the busiest times of need for area food shelves is the month of August.
Pella Community Food Shelf Executive Director Melissa Zula says as families prepare to go back to school, many find themselves short on food as they spend on school supplies and other fees. Zula says they also have a school supply program families can sign up for ahead of August to fill their lists before classes start. The Pella Community Food Shelf is open on Tuesdays in the mornings and evenings for food pick ups.
