Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department Judy Sommar has been selected as the Knoxville Hospital and Clinics Hero of the Month.

Sommars selection comes following an emergency room incident involving a heart attack patient. During the incident Sommar was credited with being very knowledgeable, keeping a smile on the patient’s face by being friendly and outgoing all while working 13 hours in the ER and making sure the patient was well taken care. Sommars patient was later taken to Des Moines where she had a angiogram and a stent put in. The patient’s heart was 95% blocked and with Sommars attention and knowledge all while keeping a positive and encouraging attitude helped save the patient’s life. Sommar will now be in the running for KHC Hero of the Year in May 2018.
