Drought conditions throughout south central Iowa have continued to improve after a wet October provided much-needed relief to dry ground.
According to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor, portions of Marion County previously listed in the severe category are now rated as moderate, as is most of the area. Countywide, 3-4” of precipitation fell in the month of October, after roughly 2-3” fell over the three previous months. The U.S. Palmer Drought Index indicates that drought conditions would be lifted if another 3-6” of rain fell over the next month.
Cooler, dry conditions are expected through the end of next week, according to the latest forecast. Stay tuned to KNIA/KRLS for the latest weather information.
