Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015, at the Statehouse in Des Moines, Iowa.

The biggest portion of Iowa’s state funding will be determined when lawmakers return to Des Moines in the 2018 Legislative Session.

Both State Senator Ken Rozenboom and Representative Guy Vander Linden expect debate to start soon to determine what public schools will receive for the upcoming fiscal year.

Vander Linden does not expect a budget cut, but could not guarantee there would be a significant increase either, considering the state’s current budget shortfall.

Many districts in Iowa, including Pella, have discussed potential budget cuts may come soon if they don’t receive an increase that covers their annual growth in expenses. The 2018 Legislative Session begins Monday.
