The Knoxville Middle School performed ALICE training on Wednesday. ALICE, which stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate, is safety training for an intruder inside the building.

Students, teachers, and staff were all involved in the training, with help from the Knoxville Police Department. The Iowa legislature recently approved in unanimous vote for all schools to have a safety plan in case a shooter or intruder. The bill requires authorities who oversee public and private schools to have a “high-quality emergency operation plan” that includes responses to active shooters and natural disasters. The plan must be in place by June 2019.
