The Marion County Board of Supervisors met in special session Wednesday at Melcher-Dallas City Hall. The board discussed with the Melcher-Dallas City Council possible amendments to the 2016 temporary agreement with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office to serve as the town’s primary law enforcement agency.

The council requested that the money paid to the Sheriff’s Office monthly be reduced so they could use the funds to expand their own police department, which operates mainly on a part-time basis. The two agencies agreed to continue discussions about lessening the burden over the next several months as more data is gathered, and to begin the transition towards more hours covered by the Melcher-Dallas Police Department while still ensuring public safety.
