A municipal telecommunications utility plan will be developed this summer for the City of Pella.

City Administrator Mike Nardini tells KNIA/KRLS News the council approved a contract with Farr Technologies to review both short-term and long-term strategies for implementing a utility providing internet and a wide range of other services in the community. It will include an assessment of current service levels, fiber optic infrastructure, and service capacity, as well as analyze and recommend an operating model.

Advanced metering infrastructure for electric and water services will also be considered. Over 92% of voters approved the telecommunications utility in a special ballot measure May 1st. The development plan is expected to be complete in September. Hear more about the latest with the City of Pella on today’s Let’s Talk Pella.
