A heat advisory is in place for most of Central Iowa from Friday through Sunday.

Daytime temperatures are expected to climb into the mid 90s, with heat index values topping 100 degrees through Sunday evening. Additionally, overnight lows are only forecast to drop into the mid 70s.

In addition to the hot and humid conditions, south winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts over 30 mph are forecast Friday and Saturday afternoons. The stronger winds lead to an increased risk of dehydration. Remember to drink plenty of water, take breaks in the shade if you work or have sports activities outside, and wear lightweight clothing. Never leave infants, children or pets in a parked car, even for a minute, and know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
