The Top 10 countdown continues for Pleasantville sports for 2017-18 with number five.
A big reason the Trojan baseball team added another Pride of Iowa Conference Championship banner to their collection was the dominance on the mound. Most teams are lucky to have one no-hitter in a season, but the Trojans had a pair of senior hurlers to accomplish the rare feat this year. On June 4th in a 4-0 win over Lenox, Kyle Amendt threw a no-hitter while giving up just one walk and punching out 13 batters in 99 pitches. Colton Major was able to do the same two weeks later in a 9-0 win over Twin Cedars. He also gave up just one walk, had 16 strikeouts, and threw only 91 pitches. Both seniors tell KNIA/KRLS Sports they soaked in the moment. Amendt says, “It was my first no-hitter ever and I will probably remember that moment for a long time, I was super happy.” Major recalls a weight being lifted off his shoulders immediately after the game and he could finally cherish the moment with his teammates.
The depth of the Trojan pitching staff was on display all year, as Quintin Berglund had a 19 strikeout performance. Pleasantville had a 2.88 team ERA and finished the year 23-12.
