Plans for a solar canopy on Knoxville municipal property are moving ahead, but actual construction work likely won’t begin until spring.
During Monday night’s City Council meeting, the council learned plans for the design of a canopy for the municipal parking lot across the street from City Hall are proceeding on schedule.
This canopy would be topped with solar panels, which would help power City Hall, the fire station and the library. A similar array is planned for the wastewater treatment plant.
The City Council also approved modifying its ordinance covering a TIF district; it will now include the Veterans Administration campus.
Council members also got a look at the proposed layout for a new Hy-Vee gas station, to go in the southwest corner of the grocery store’s property; they approved the initial proposal. And the city renewed its agreement with the Knoxville School District for a school resource officer, to last another three years.
