A nearly 80 degree swing from Wednesday to Sunday is expected after bone-chilling cold shattered records throughout the region.

According to the National Weather Service, a rapid warm up will continue today through Sunday, with daytime highs tomorrow in the low 40s and reaching and approaching 50 by the end of the weekend. On Wednesday morning, air temperatures dipped as low as 24 below zero, and -18 on Thursday. Light precipitation is possible through Monday morning, but little is expected to freeze. A cool down is in the long term forecast for next week, however, temperatures are expected to stay above zero during that time.
