Marion County Board of Supervisors chair Mark Raymie says he’s pleased with the strategy the City of Knoxville has outlined for acquisition and redevelopment of the Veterans Administration campus, and asks only that the city keep other parties in the loop.

Members of the Board of Supervisors were on hand for Monday night’s City Council meeting to learn details about the city’s strategic plan for the VA property; and Raymie tells KNIA/KRLS News the flexibility of the plan and the general concept should work.

“I think overall the board likes the high-level concept the way it was laid out; I think it has tremendous potential for the City of Knoxville and for Marion County. So from a high-level concept we’re very excited about continuing this process,” Raymie says.

The city wants to redevelop the land for one or more uses, with a particular eye towards housing.

Raymie says the county wants the city to also meet with the School District and the Marion County Fair Board, and work out some of the economic details for presentation to the Board of Supervisors.

Knoxville Mayor Brian Hatch promised to keep the county up to date as the process goes along; the next step is a conference call with representatives of the General Services Administration, for an update on where the city’s request stands.
