This year’s Coaches vs. Cancer games at Knoxville High School have raised over $50,000, even as the event was curtailed due to a number of weather-related cancellations.

Knoxville girls basketball coach Jim Uitermarkt says a final total is still several weeks away; he also says the organizers are thankful for everyone who took part in the event in some form or another.

The games against Chariton originally scheduled for January 19th wound up being postponed three times due to winter weather; the final postponement last Thursday forced organizers to instead hold the fundraising events over two nights.

While some of the associated events had to be cancelled, many still went on as scheduled during Saturday night’s contest against Grinnell; this includes the silent auction, quilt raffle, cookie and ice cream sales and the shooting contest at halftime.
