The Simpson Storm women’s and men’s basketball teams swept the Kohawks of Coe College Saturday afternoon with both teams winning on late baskets. The Storm women used 28 points from Jenna Taylor to battle back and forth with the Kohawks in the first half, but a late Coe run put the Storm down 44-35 at the break. The Storm held the Kohaks to below 20 points in each of the third and fourth quarters, and eventually tied the game late. A basket from sophomore Cameron Kincaid with just seconds remaining ended up winning it for Simpson 78-76, with Kincaid scoring 18 and Rachel Freland putting in 17. The Storm men also needed late heroics to take down Coe, with a home game in the American Rivers Conference tournament on the line. The Storm led at halftime 39-33, and survived a second half comeback with the Storm having a two point lead late, but a costly foul allowed Coe to tie the game with free throws with just 11 seconds left. The Storm gave the ball to junior forward Adam Reiter, who scored the game winner at the buzzer to put the Storm as the 4 seed in the conference tournament. Kyle Wagner dropped 24 to lead the Storm, who improve to 15-9 and 9-7 in conference play. The Storm women improve to 19-6 and 11-5, and both teams will begin their conference tournament journeys at home this week, with the women hosting Nebraska Wesleyan and the Storm men hosting Coe on Tuesday.
