The Central College softball team pitching staff delivered in a fast-paced 4-0, 5-1 non-conference sweep of Monmouth College Monday. Dutch hurler Mariah Fritz made quick work of Monmouth in the opener, needing just 81 pitches in a 5-hit shutout. Danielle Riley responded with seven strong innings in game two, allowing only an unearned run on six hits with one strikeout and no walks while needing only 70 pitches for Central (20-8). Central, which committed two errors in the second game, played errorless ball in the opener and turned its 16th double play of the season, which ranks fifth in the NCAA Division III. Central returns to league action Wednesday in Dubuque with a 2 p.m. twinbill with Loras College.
