The Des Moines Metro Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera Guild, and OPERA Iowa are hosting an event for families to enjoy a fairy tale this Thursday and Saturday, with the Picnic and Puccini Family Adventure. The fairy tale Little Red’s Most Unusual Day will be performed, a sack lunch will be provided, and a behind-the-scenes tour will be given. General and Artistic Director of the DSM Metro Opera Michael Egel tells KNIA News the response from the community of Indianola and Simpson College is what keeps the Des Moines Metro Opera going.

“What we want to put out there is that the greatest works of art don’t have to only be found in America’s largest cities, and that extremely high quality performances can be available to anyone, no matter where they live. That all you really need is the right venue, the right vision, and a high quality experience, and that is what we continue to go about doing.”

The performances run from 10am to noon at the Blank Performing Arts Center on the Simpson College Campus.
