One of the key funding challenges local legislators would like to address at the state level is inequities among public school districts. State Senator Ken Rozenboom says one of the challenges over the past several years has been chipping away at differences in per pupil funding among districts, as well as covering the difference in transportation. Representative Dustin Hite says several rural districts have to pay significantly more to get students to class, which often comes from the general fund also used to pay for teachers and programs. Both say the legislature will likely work on closing those gaps further in the 2020 session, which begins in January.
