The Pella City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance rezoning a previously approved housing development at their meeting Tuesday. The ordinance, if adopted after two more readings, would change the terms of a planned unit development with Harvest Investments for new housing that was approved in 2018. The revised project would include a $5.8 million housing cooperative with 22 single-family homes, with a clubhouse including meeting space, exercise facilities, and pickleball courts. Council approved resolutions altering rental fees for the Pella Memorial Building and updating tournament fees at the Pella Sports Park to accommodate the two new fields under construction. Amendments to the Pella Airport operators lease and management agreement with Classic Aviation were also approved. During policy and planning following regular business, council tentatively agreed to proceed with a delay to phase two of the Oostpoort Alley renovations, and reviewed draft ordinances permitting minors into where alcohol is sold but accounts for less than half of total sales and that would better allow for urban gardening operations.
