The Knoxville Girls Basketball Squad used stifling defense and pinpoint shooting to blow by Oskaloosa on Saturday 66-24. The Panthers held a seven point lead after one quarter, then started the second quarter on an 11-1 run to take control. Knoxville would eventually outscore Oskaloosa 27-5 in the second quarter to take a 45-16 lead at the half, and invoked the running clock rule on the Indians early in the fourth quarter. Katie Keitges led the Panthers with 35 points, which puts her just 13 points shy of becoming the all-time career scoring leader at Knoxville. Maggie Wilkins contributed 19 points in the win. Knoxville is now 3-0 and will travel to Clarke on Tuesday which is apart of a girl/boy double header and can be heard on 95.3 KNIA.

Knoxville’s Luke Spaur came away with the 120 pound championship and the Knoxville Wrestling Squad placed fourth at the Coach Riley Invitational at Nodaway Valley on Saturday. Other top finishers for the Panthers were Marco Alejo (uh-LAY-ho) third at 113 pounds, Gabe Gordon third at 132 pounds, and Nash Linsley third at 160 pounds.

The Knoxville Bowling Squads held their season opener at the Newton Invitational on Saturday. The girls placed fourth with a score of 2,146 led by Lily Cieslak with a 329 series and a high game of 182. The boys were third with a total pin fall of 2,497 and were led by Keegan McCarty with a 424 series and a high game of 217. Coach Shaun Renard says the focus this season is to get the bowlers to convert the all-important spares and not leave any open frames…

Renard:
“We looked at last year’s stats and realized we missed a lot of spares, so this year we really asked the kids to focus on targeting, being able to hit their mark and able to convert that open frame into a spare. The strikes will come then there after, but spares are what wins meets.”

The Panthers will head to Davis County for a triangular with the Mustangs and Centerville on Tuesday.
