Friday is the 16th Annual Knoxville High School Athletic Hall of Fame inductions with a luncheon at the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame at noon. One of the inductees is Mike Stults. Stults was a three time all-state runner in cross country, finishing runner up his senior year, and was a multiple place winner in track and field highlighted by a state championship in the 800 during his junior season. Hall of Fame Committee Member Joe Cunningham tells KRLS Sports, it could have never happened as a near-tragic event happened to Stults shortly before the state meet.

Cunningham:
“About a week before the state meet in his junior year, he was hit by a car, crossing Highway 14 running over to Casey’s when the middle school was the high school. It was a severe injury. After a few days of rest, he starts moving around, he goes to the state championships and actually wins the 800 meters.”

Stults will join Brian Hiemstra, Elizabeth (Haning) Hadler, and Graham Fee as the class of 2020 in the Knoxville High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
