High school sports coaches in the upcoming summer seasons are in a holding pattern with the sports shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. For baseball coaches this would be the time of the season that they would be hitting the spring league circuit watching their players get ready for the upcoming season. First year Knoxville Coach Turner Devore tells KRLS Sports that plus a lot of work in the high school gym would be on the schedule.

Devore:
“Do open gyms with the kids, be watching them in spring leagues and be in constant communication with them. I know it’s for the safety of all involved and it’s really tough on the kids and I know the administration feels the same way.”

At this time, the new guidelines of scheduling from the Iowa High School Athletic Association makes the first competition day for baseball on June first, which would be a home game against Nevada for the Panthers. Devore hopes there is a season of some kind whether it is similar to what the schedule is now or something different like a conference only schedule.
