Three Central College student-athletes were honored for playing significant roles in the lives of their teammates and others on campus. The awards were announced as part of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council’s (SAAC) Dutchies event Sunday evening. Women’s soccer midfielder Baylee Kivett received the Prins Sportsmanship Award, women’s track and field athlete Courtney Kruthoff received the Marjorie Giles Student Life Leadership Award and football and men’s tennis athlete Danny Anderson received the Ron Schipper Leadership Award.

The Prins Sportsmanship Award, named after Tunis W. and Harriet B. Prins, is given to a student, athlete or non-athlete, who has demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship in dealing with fellow students on campus or in meeting life’s challenges. A four-year letterwinner with the Dutch women’s soccer program, Kivett served as team captain in 2019 and was named the team’s Most Inspirational Player Award. Kivett is a three-time academic all-conference honoree.

The Marjorie Giles Student Life Leadership Award is given to a junior or senior who has demonstrated positive values through faith-based leadership in a variety of co-curricular activities. Kruthoff earned three varsity letters on the track squad and is a three-time all-region and all-conference selection as well as a 2019 American Rivers academic all-conference honoree. She serves in leadership capacities with Central’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes, SAAC and the psychology honor society Psi Chi.

The Ron Schipper Leadership Award is presented to a senior who reflects the character, commitment and enthusiasm for Central displayed by Schipper during his 36 years of service to Central’s students as head football coach as well as his 30 years as athletics director. The recipient must demonstrate a willingness to set lofty goals and the drive to achieve them, high ethical standards and strong Christian values, a joyous spirit, genuine concern for others and a deep, personal loyalty to the college. Anderson played four seasons of football at defensive back and three in men’s tennis, earning seven varsity letters. He received honorable mention all-conference distinction in tennis in 2017 and 2019 and was a five-time academic all-conference honoree in the two sports. Anderson received the Brian O’Donnell Award as the outstanding freshman on the 2016 football team.
