The Pella School Board agreed to continuing participation in the instructional support program at their meeting Monday. The board approved a five year extension to continue funding and the levy. A memorandum of understanding between the City of Pella and the Pella School District was also approved, which is an agreement between the two entities to work together to form a partnership that would allow Pella Fiber to broadcast school events on a new cable channel in 2021, including athletics, performing arts, other events promoting the school, and school board meetings.

Superintendent Greg Ebeling also presented the return to learn plan for the school district, including an overall timeline for face-to-face learning requirements and virtual learning options. Ebeling expects a hybrid model of both in person classes and some online opportunities — which could help in a potential situation where some students or staff test positive for COVID-19. Additional updates about the return to learn plan will be held at the June 22nd board meeting and again in late July.

An update about graduation and the return of summer activities was also given. The current plan for summer sports will have Pella return to the regular season schedule for both baseball and softball and pick up on June 15th where they would have left off during the regular season, with additional softball doubleheaders/triangulars in the final week before the playoffs. Graduation will be held on Friday, June 19th at 6 p.m.
