During the most recent Knoxville City Council meeting Monday, the council held a discussion regarding potential city code changes when it comes to camping within city limits. Knoxville City Manager Aaron Adams explained to the council the need for the potential change. Adams says the city continues to receive requests from home owners near the Knoxville Raceway that would like camping hookups installed on their property to include electric, water and sewer. He says it is the opinion of city staff that these hookups are not conducive to residential neighborhoods.

Adams says the potential code changes should not affect campers during Nationals as the code is centered around the installation of permanent camping hook ups. He says the code would still allow for campers to camp in residential areas during Nationals. Adams says the city has found that most homeowners who want the hookups installed, want more than one and that campers could potentially utilize the hookups all season long instead of just for Nationals and that is what the city does not want to see.

The Knoxville City Council will discuss the potential camping code change during a public hearing at the next Knoxville City Council meeting on July 6th.
