indianola-3

The Indianola baseball and softball teams welcomed the Tigers of ADM High School to town for a non-conference clash Thursday evening, with the softball squad falling 3-2, and the baseball squad winning in walkoff fashion 6-5 in a game heard live on 94.3 KNIA.

The Indians baseball squad fell behind early 4-0 after ADM had clutch two-out hitting through the first three and a half innings, but Indianola struck for two in the bottom of the fourth after a pair of wild pitches to trail 4-2. ADM scored another in the top of the fifth, but RBI singles from Kael Kolarik and Gabe Zwanziger put the Indians within a run at 5-4. In the bottom of the seventh, Will Young led off the inning with a walk, followed by a Tyce Johnson bunt single, and an error allowed Young to score from first on the play to tie the game and allowed Johnson to advance to third, then Kolarik’s heroics won the game for the Indians. Head coach Casey Aldridge tells KNIA Sports the win feels good, as it feels the Indians are starting to put things together.

“It was one we really, really needed. We have struggled in some situations, especially in the middle of the game like tonight where we gave up a three-spot. We’ve had a little bit of trouble fighting back, but the guys did it tonight. It was good to see them fight through some adversity, and it was a great win.”

Mark Pepper picked up the win on the mound, while Kolarik and Johnson each had a pair of hits.

The Indians softball squad traded two-run home runs with the Tigers in the third, with Indianola getting theirs from Alley May for a 2-2 score that lasted until the sixth when the Tigers pushed a run across. The Indians threatened in the bottom half of the inning, but solid defense prevented a run scoring. May had a pair of hits to lead the Indians.

Indianola baseball improves to 8-6, softball falls to 12-3, and both teams play in-county rival Norwalk tonight.
