twin-cedars-melcher-dallas-showdown-rivalry

It was total domination for the Melcher-Dallas Football Squad over Twin Cedars in the annual clash for southern Marion County bragging rights on Saturday with the Saints cruising to a 46-0 win over their rivals as heard on kniakrls.com KNIA3, posting the first shutout for either team in the series since 1998. The Saints struck early jumping out to a 16-0 first quarter lead taking advantage of turnovers by the Sabers. The Krpan Twins would do most of the damage early on with Ryan and Steve scoring first quarter touchdowns. It would continue in the second quarter with Ryan throwing for two scores and getting a pick-six to up the halftime score 38-0. Caleb Roland would round out the scoring in the third quarter with a 20 yard reception. Coach Pat Ferguson told KNIA sports for the most part his team was able to do whatever it wanted.

Ferguson:
“I thought we played pretty well on offense, we were to do about anything we wanted. I think they should have scored on us a couple times, our DBs let up or the wind held the ball up. It’s always good to get a victory over your rival.”

Coach Cam Parker told KRLS Sports the mistakes and penalties at the most crucial time did not add up to a winning formula.

Parker:
“Had a few drives and had momentum got down to the one and three yard lines. Had turnovers and penalties that negated positive plays and you just can’t have that when you want to beat your rivals.”

The Sabers were held to just 71 yards on the ground led by Kade Dunkin’s 50 yards on nine carries. He was 8/17 for 90 yards through the air and had one reception for 13 yards. Twin Cedars finishes the season with an 0-6 record. The Saints were led on the ground by Lane Vanderlinden running for 80 yards on 17 carries. Steven Krpan was 4/5 for 100 yards through the air and a touchdown, while Ryan Krpan caught two passes for 50 yards. Melcher-Dallas finishes the season 3-5 and sends out its senior class with four straight wins over rival Twin Cedars.
