The Knoxville Library Board has decided to eliminate fines beginning January 1st, 2021. This move is to provide fair and equal access to the library’s services, and to encourage circulation and participation in programs. The library had been waiving fines due to the pandemic and the tough economic times it has caused. Director Roslin Thompson says that fines most affect those who can least afford them, and that revenue from fines account for a very small percentage of the library’s budget.

This new policy applies to all materials, though lost and damaged items will still be subject to fees.
