pleasantville-3

Pleasantville’s boys basketball team ended their season on a high note with a victory against Chariton 50-30, while the Trojan wrestling team will be competing in districts today at home.

The Trojans’ basketball team finishes the season with a 7-14 record overall and 1-13 in West Central Conference play. Pleasantville also finishes the season with back-to-back wins, hoping to carry that momentum into the postseason. Mason Scheve led the way in scoring for the Trojans, dropping 16 points. Colby Sandholdt was second on the team in scoring with 11.

Pleasantville will begin playoff action Monday night as they play at home against Colfax-Mingo. The game will tip off at 7:00 PM and will be broadcast on the KNIA3 stream at kniakrls.com with Alex Koch on the call.

Five Trojan Wrestlers will be at home competing in their district tournament as they look to clinch a berth in the state tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. The five wrestlers competing will be Jesse Smith at 106 lbs, Tyler Gibson at 120 lbs, Kitt Lundy at 132 lbs, Jacob Hiemstra at 152 lbs, and Matthew Kauffman at heavyweight. Coach Heath DeForest tells KNIA Sports that the wrestler that will have the toughest competition will be Tyler Gibson at 120 lbs.

“Comparing all sorts of different variables, I would have to say Tyler Gibson at 120. You have a two-time defending champion coming in, #1 ranked kid and then you have another kid that was a state qualifier last year as a freshman and wanting to make it back to state. Then there is a senior from Collins-Maxwell that we were able to beat in overtime. Tyler wrestled one of his best matches.”

Action starts at Pleasantville High School at noon.
