PCM Soccer Loses to Pella Christian in Penalty Kicks
In the first soccer game played in two years, Pella Christian outlasted PCM by a final of 3-2; Pella Christian won the penalty kick round 4-2.
The match got off to a strong defensive start, with only one goal being scored in the first half, which was from Pella Christian sophomore Nate Greco. In the second half, PCM got two goals from Jaret Johnston and Carson Vandelune in the span of 40 seconds. However, just three minutes later, Pella Christian tied the score at two thanks to a penalty-kick goal from William Spencer.
After 39 more scoreless minutes, the game went into penalty kicks. After Pella Christian took a 3-2 Nik Ball of PCM’s penalty shot bounced off the right post. Pella Christian’s final penalty goal was netted, and the Eagles came away with a 1-0 record on the season, where the Mustangs fell to 0-1.
Pella Christian will go back on the road Tuesday as they travel to Albia, while PCM will have another home match against Chariton Thursday.
PCM Boys Track Finishes 2nd at Roland-Story
PCM’s boys’ track team placed second in a meet for the second meet in a row as they finished with a total 73 points, eight behind the winner of the meet, host Roland-Story.
The Mustangs had a total of six 1st-place finishers in the meet, including four individual and two team events. Jacob VanWinkle placed first in the 200 meter dash. Beau Webb topped the 1600 meter run. Also, Gatlin Boell topped the 400 meter hurdles and Ben Buys finished first in discus. PCM also finished first as a team in the distance medley and the 110 shuttle hurdle.
The Mustangs’ next meet is Tuesday, which is a co-ed home meet. The meet will begin at 4:30 PM.
