It took 10 innings to determine a winner Monday evening, but the #6 in Class 4A Norwalk softball team saw its season come to a close with a 3-2 loss to Oskaloosa in the regional semifinals, as aired on KNIA3. It started as a pitcher’s duel, but Norwalk was able to score the game’s first run in the fourth inning on a passed ball to take a 1-0 lead. The lead was doubled in the fifth when Oskaloosa’s catcher was called for interference on a play at the plate to put Norwalk on top 2-0. But an error in the sixth allowed the Indians to tie the game. Oskaloosa was denied a run twice in the ninth, with the inning ending on an incredible throw home from center field.

After that, Oskaloosa’s Olivia Gordon drove in the game’s final run in the 10th, and the Warriors left two aboard in the bottom of the game to end it.

Pitcher Hailey Downe went the complete game, giving up six hits and four walks while recording 12 strikeouts. Taylor Condon and Addi Downe each had two base hits to lead the way. Norwalk’s season comes to a close with a record of 23-16.

The #8 in Class 4A Warrior baseball team was at North Polk for its penultimate regular season game, defeating the Comets 4-2. After three and a half scoreless innings, North Polk plated the game’s first run in the fourth to take a 1-0 lead, which was quickly answered in the top of the fifth by Norwalk. The teams again traded runs in the next two half innings to tie the game at 2. But 2 Norwalk runs in the seventh was enough to seal the deal.

Keefer Saddoris was the winning pitcher, giving up one hit and two walks while recording three strikeouts in two innings of work. Cael Eck had three hits and drove in two runs to lead offensively. Norwalk improves to 28-5 and will finish the regular season at Urbandale tonight. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00.
