It was a successful Thursday evening in the Lynnville-Sully Invitational for the Pella Christian and Twin Cedars Cross Country teams as both teams came away with a victory.

Sabers’ runner Rylee Dunkin continued her dominant stretch recording her fourth consecutive victory with a time of 20:51, and Eagle’s first year runner Joslyn Terpstra finished second in the girls meet, posting her third top two finish in three career races. Jaclyn Homles gave the Eagles another top five finisher, recording a fourth place finish.

Class 1A’s #20 ranked Eagles boys squad put together a strong night with five runners finishing in the top 17. To record the win, Pella Christian defeated their third and fourth ranked opponents of the week in #13 North Mahaska and #14 Collins-Maxwell. Twin Cedars’ lone boys runner Andrew Freel brought home a 48th place finish.

The Eagles will be back in action on Monday evening at the PCM meet at Gateway Golf Course in Monroe.

The Pella Christian Volleyball team split their matches at the Des Moines Christian Invitational Thursday night, defeating Class 1A’s #15 ranked team Southeast Warren and Newton, and falling to Class 3A’s #3 ranked team Des Moines Christian and Knoxville.

Sarah Gritters recorded 24 kills, seven aces, and 19 digs on the night for Pella Christian. Chloe Huisman posted 47 assists, two aces, 14 digs, and 3 kills from the setter position. Cara Veenstra tallied 11 kills and three blocks and Trinity Vos added eight kills and three blocks. The Eagles were without Senior Libero Natalie Harrill in the tournament, but Head Coach Tammi Wight was impressed with the job Freshman Faith Kacmarynski did filling in as she posted 14 digs and 2 aces in her first career varsity action.

“She has stepped in pretty well. She is a freshman so I think there are some nerves there, filling in some pretty big shoes, filling in for Natalie. But she came in and she is a very confident kid and loves to just do a job and we gave her a job to do and she did a pretty good job of stepping in. And she’s just going to keep getting better.

The Eagles are off until Tuesday when they welcome Dallas Center-Grimes to Eagle Lane.
