indianola-8

Four turnovers led to 21 Lewis Central points Friday night as the Indianola football team fell to the Titans 34-16 as heard live on 94.3 KNIA.

The Indians held the high-flying Lewis Central offense to barely anything in the first half, only allowing one blemish on a 72-yard touchdown pass but scored one of their own with a Matt Edgington two-yard scamper into the endzone to go into the break tied at 7 after the Indians missed a field goal near the end of the second quarter.

The third quarter was back and forth, as quarterback Bennett Brueck found Drew Kingery for a 63-yard score as the Indians took a 13-7 lead, only to see the Titans answer back to go back ahead 14-13. The Indians would make a field goal to go back ahead, but the Titans would answer again in short fashion to go up 21-16. As the Indians were driving, a fumble gave the ball back which was converted into a touchdown, then Indianola turned the ball over on downs which again was converted into a Titans score.

Head coach Eric Kluver tells KNIA Sports the Indians have to be more consistent, and they made the errors that allowed the game to slip away.

“I can look the guys in the eyes and you can tell they felt they let one get away. That they matched up well with this team, and it was more mistake driven than anything else, us shooting ourselves in the foot than anything Lewis Central did. Credit to them, they are a great football team. But too many mistakes from us, that’s what cost us.”

Edgington had 140 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries, Kingery had 159 yards and a score, while Brueck threw for 268 and a touchdown. The Indians fall to 3-1, and will play at Perry to begin district play on Friday.
