The start of something new kicks off the winter sports season at Pella High School today as the newly-created Dutch girls wrestling team joins several others from central Iowa in Ballard.

A group that’s come together from Eagle Lane, Knoxville, and the rest of the Tulip City for a few weeks of practice and several open mat events are now competing officially as a team, a special milestone new Head Coach Adam Hale is excited for.

Led by returners Jasey Olson and Elizabeth Thomas — who competed in last year’s state tournament and as members of the boys team, the Dutch are aiming to build their group’s skills as the season wears on.

Matches begin for the Ballard scramble at 5:30 this evening in Huxley.
