The Pella Christian boys basketball team kicks off their season on Tuesday, and with that comes their first game since shot clocks were implemented by the Iowa High School Athletic Association.

Despite the addition of the 35-second shot clock into the high school game, the Eagles feel like they are well prepared for the change. With an uptempo approach and athletic squad, Pella Christian head coach J.D. Boer believes the shot clock won’t have much impact earlier in games but rather at the end of games.

“For the first 28 minutes of the game, I don’t think it’s gonna play much of a factor. It’ll be pretty smooth sailing for the first 28 minutes, but then it really becomes a big deal in the last four minutes. That’s what gets me excited. 32 minutes is a really short game and when you figure that most games are really, you know, the four minutes one teams out there holding the ball, it really turns into a 28 minute game, or even less sometimes, so I I get excited about the fact that you’ve got to execute all the way down the stretch in order to win a game.”

The Pella Christian boys basketball team will get their first taste of the shot clock in their season and home opener on Tuesday when they host Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.
