The Iowa Basketball Coaches Association has released its All-Substate boys selections for the 2022-2023 season, recognizing two players each from Norwalk and Indianola squads that combined to win 39 games.

In Class 4A, Substate 1, Norwalk junior Redek Born is the IBCA’s top-ranked player out of six selections, joined by senior teammate Braeden Carlson. Born and Carlson helped lead the Warriors to a 20-4 record and the program’s first state tournament appearance in three years.

In Class 4A, Substate 6, Indianola seniors Drew Kingery and Brayden Drea are members of the six-player honor team. They helped the Indians claim a Little Hawkeye Conference championship and finish 19-3 overall.

Kingery, a Truman State University signee, was recognized as the number one player in Substate 6 after leading Indianola with 16.8 points and 6.6 rebounds in 14 games. He shot 55 percent from the field and 80 percent at the free throw line.

Drea averaged 14.3 points and was the team leader with 4.2 assists per contest as well as 62 three-point baskets at a 46 percent clip.

Born led the Little Hawkeye Conference in both scoring average (18.6 points per game) and assists (4.9 per game) while also averaging 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals. He shot 40.4 percent from the 3-point line with 40 makes and converted 108-of-128 free throws.

Carlson averaged 14.3 points per game and led the Warriors with 8.0 rebounds a night and a field goal percentage of 57.5.
