Iowa High School Football’s new classifications for the 2023 and 2024 seasons have been released.

The new classification model reflects the change in football enrollment voted on by schools in January adding a factor based on a school district’s free and reduced lunch percentage. Based on those modifications to the classification model, KNIA/KRLS area schools will participate in the following classes in 2023 and 2024:

4A: Indianola, Norwalk, Pella, and Carlisle

3A: Knoxville

2A: PCM

1A: Pella Christian and Pleasantville

A: Martensdale St. Mary’s

8-Man: Twin Cedars, Melcher-Dallas, and Southeast Warren

Once these classifications are verified this week, the Iowa High School Athletic Association will develop and share district and group (Class 5A) assignments as early as next week. Participating schools will then submit priority lists for their available non-district contests. Once received, the IHSAA will assemble regular season schedules for all participating schools, with an estimated release of mid-April.
