The Norwalk Police Department and Animal Rescue League of Iowa rescued 60 pets from a home last week.

On Friday, April 12th, Norwalk Police and the Animal Rescue League responded to an animal neglect situation on Windflower Drive in Norwalk. Upon arrival, officers and members of the  Rescue League’s mobile rescue team located 57 live dogs, three live cats, and seven deceased dogs inside of the house. The investigation revealed that the residents were providing the animals with sufficient food and water but many of the dogs had various medical conditions that required treatment. According to the Norwalk Police Department, the interior of the house appeared to be unsanitary with excessive amounts of animal waste and trash covering many surfaces.

The owner of the animals is cooperating with authorities and has voluntarily surrendered all dogs and cats to the ARL. Criminal charges concerning animal neglect are pending completion of the investigation.
