Tulips planted in specified street beds and the City of Pella parks will be available for removal next week. The annual dig starts on Monday, May 13th at 7:00am.

The following guidelines are to be followed:
– Use a spading/potato fork when digging up tulip bulbs
– Take the bulb and all foliage
– For optimum bulb health, leave foliage attached to the bulb.
– Should foliage/stems detach from the bulb, it should be collected anyways and not disposed of in trash cans.
– All soil must remain in the flower beds, and if spilled outside, it should be raked back in the bed

The street beds are located between the sidewalk and the street on:
• South Main Street between Peace and Liberty
• North Main Street between Washington St and Sunken Gardens Park
• Washington Street from Open Bible Church west to Brinkhoff Park
• Franklin Street from the Post Office west to West Market Park

City parks include: Brinkhoff, Central, West Market, Sunken Gardens, South Park, Community Center, Library, City Hall, and the Klokkenspel. Removal from any other bed is prohibited. This applies to tulip bulbs only – not to any other spring bulbs or perennial flowers or shrubs that may be located in the parks.

Also included for digging this year are the Fair Haven Memorial tulips beds at the Union and E 3rd Street intersection, with the same rules as above. Participants should abide by on-site signage as tulips in formal landscaped areas or in perennial beds are not available for digging.

Additionally, tulip crates are available for sale. They are 15.5″ x 23.5″ and the depth of crates varies. Crates will be available for sale in Central Park on Monday, May 13 starting at 7am or they can be picked up at the Pella Community Center Office during normal business hours, M-F, 7:30a-4:30p. The cost is $5 each, and cash only.
