
While the majority of the gifts and donations the organization receives are around the holidays, typically, the biggest time of need for the Pella Community Food Shelf is in the summer.
Director Melissa Zula says they’ve been as busy as expected, with hundreds of area residents already visiting their service since school dismissed at the end of May. She says that typically adds to their demand, as has the past three years of steep inflation at grocery stores.
