The Knoxville Boys Basketball Squad’s run ended on Tuesday the Cedar Rapids Xavier at the class 3A quarterfinals 52-37 heard live on 95.3 KNIA. Xavier led for most of the way, building an early lead and going into halftime up seven. Knoxville would trim that deficit to four at the end of the 3rd quarter, but got no closer. The Panthers were hampered with poor shooting all game, going 3/24 from three point range and getting out rebounded 38-28 plus allowing 14 offensive rebounds to the Saints. Panthers Coach Joel Keady told KNIA/KRLS Sports those areas stacked up made it tough for his team to overcome.
Keady: “Thought we would hit a few more shots if we were guarded well, and that’s the way it goes. We also didn’t shoot the ball well and got out rebounded, they got offensive rebounds and we turned it over more than we would like.”
Landen Norris scored 14 points to lead Knoxville and leaves the Panthers as one of the all-time great players to wear a Knoxville uniform scoring a career total of 1,468 which puts him 3rd all-time in program history. Norris along with Koby Higginbotham, Kaiden Smith, and Cael Irving will all depart the program. Knoxville finishes with a 24-1 record.
