Newton School Superintendent Tom Messenger believes parents of students at Thomas Jefferson Elementary will find it a lot easier dropping off and picking up kids next fall, after the school’s north driveway is redone. That work begins April 15th and is connected to the addition being built onto the north side of the school. With that driveway closed, the Newton school district has developed a new student pick-up plan for the last six weeks of the school year. It involves students being bused to the district’s administration building for pick up. Messenger believes this temporary inconvenience will lead to alleviating a longtime problem.
“I think that people are going to find that it’s much better than what it was before. There is more space for traffic and more efficient use of the space both on the south and the north side of Thomas Jefferson Elementary. Traffic flow has been a concern historically there.”
The Newton School Board approved the new Thomas Jefferson School student pick-up plan, effective April 15th, at last week’s school board meeting.
