The Iowa Senate recently passed a bill detailing work requirements for Iowans receiving Medicaid benefits, requiring able-bodied individuals on taxpayer-funded health care work a minimum of 80 hours a month to continue receiving benefits. State Senator Julian Garrett tells KNIA News he voted in favor of the bill.
“The point of it is for people to go to work. We’re not trying to prevent people from getting healthcare and so on, but again if you can work and you are getting taxpayer funding, then we think you should work.”
Opponents of the bill say there aren’t any provisions for caregivers of elderly or disabled family members, and could have an impact on already struggling rural hospitals. Hear more on today’s Let’s Talk Indianola.
