The Knoxville School Board will hold their second and final public hearing for the district’s proposed property tax rate on April 14th.

The first public hearing was held on Monday, March 24th and the hearings are required by state law for the community to be able to voice their opinion on the proposed rate. Citizens within the district have either received these notices in the mail or will receive these notices as part of the state requirement. School Business Manager Craig Mobley says the format of it can look like the rate is increased based on how the state formats assessed value, but in reality, the rate is actually going down five cents per $1,000 in assessed value. Mobley says he wants citizens informed on what is going on with the school’s budget.

“I think the meaning behind doing these public hearings is keeping your constituents informed. We operate on a great deal of taxpayer money and we want taxpayers to know what is happening with our certified budget. Our proposal is actually lowering our property tax rate by five cents per $1,000 in assessed valuation so we’re proud of that and we are proud of the fact that we’re holding that steady with a slight decrease.”

The public hearing will be held at 5:30 pm at the district office on April 14th.
