The Executive Director of Newton Housing Development Corporation expects Newton to grow at a faster pace over the next several years. Bruce Showalter says new housing will play a big part in growing the city’s population, which has increased by about 500 people over the past decade. Last year, Showalter says there were 15 new houses started in the community. He believes that number will surpass 20 this year.

“Especially with TPI starting back up and bringing jobs and people to town. So I am hoping we will have plenty of houses for them to buy instead of commuting.”

The TPI wind blade manufacturing plant is projected to start operating again in mid-May with approximately 400 workers. The plant is located on the northeast edge of Newton, just north of Newton’s latest housing subdivision, called Arbor Estates. Showalter says 50% of the homes sold in Newton are purchased by people moving into town. Newton Housing Development Corporation also offers a $10,000 cash incentive to homebuyers who purchase a new house valued at $240,000, not counting the land value.
