The City of Knoxville discussed a potential athletic fields project in the Veterans District with the Marion County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday.

City of Knoxville Economic Development Director Glenn Lyons provided the board with an update of progress within the Veterans District and plans for the future. Lyons also spoke about the potential plans of a Youngs Park expansion, which would include the addition of four youth ballfields, at least four soccer fields, and additional parking.

The presentation showed that the cost would be approximately $2 million, which would be paid for by the city and local contributions. City leadership hopes the benefits of this project would include improved quality of life, great location, economic impact, user groups, and a capital campaign. City of Knoxville Parks and Recreation Director Brandon Nemmers also spoke at the meeting about being willing to launch the capital campaign for this project, as he believes athletic facilities can provide a strong economic impact for the community.
