A task force that will bring a recommendation to the school board regarding the future of Northstar Elementary School continues to meet.

At a school board meeting on March 24th, the task force was established, including community members and parents with people from a variety of age groups and the list is made up of half males and half females. The group will help in the decision making process on whether to renovate the current building or build new on land that is reserved in the Veterans District. There will be three different scenarios to consider in regards to the future of Northstar: add classroom and gym additions along with fixing deficiencies, full renovation of the building, or building a new facility.

The school district has been working with Boyd Jones and Alvine Engineering for an assessment that was done to the current building. School Business Manager Craig Mobley says the first meeting was discussing the task at hand and in the second meeting the task force went and toured the building.

“I got a lot of people who probably haven’t been on a school bus onto a school bus. We met here at the administration office and loaded up on a school bus to look at the proposed VA site where a new school could go and then we left there and went to Northstar and toured the Northstar building. A lot of people may have not been able to get into that school building for a long time so we did a thorough tour of the building.”

In the third meeting held this week the task force discussed the financials of the project. There is one more task force meeting scheduled, but there could be more held. There are 21 total members who were selected to the task force out of roughly 50 total names that were put in as recommendations from school board members.
