The Pella Public Library will welcome author Sue DeMarinis on Wednesday, May 21st to present an author talk, discussion and slide show about her book, “Hidden in Haarlem: Love and Survival in Nazi-Occupied Holland”.
The book revolves around a Dutch family, their involvement with the Resistance movement, and the history of the Nazi-occupied Haarlem, Holland area during World War II. The slide show will include photos of actual characters and historic places pertaining to the novel. During World War II, many Hollanders thought the war was not just on the front lines. Hidden in Haarlem is based on true stories of an ordinary Dutch family who survived five war-torn years, showing courage, conviction, ingenuity, and resilience while risking their lives to help fellow human beings. Everyday people became unlikely rebels by hiding Jewish refugees, Allied pilots, and Dutch work-draft dodgers. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing after the presentation.
This event will take place in Room 206 of the Pella Community Center at 6 pm and is free and open to the public. For questions about this or other upcoming events, contact the Pella Public Library at 641-628-4268.
