The Knoxville City Council approved a lease extension for the senior center at their meeting Monday night.

This is a one year agreement as the current three year agreement will expire in June. The senior center is located in the basement of the municipal building and the city is choosing to only do a one year lease for the time being due to the planned construction of the new public safety/city hall building. City Manager Heather Ussery says the city plans to utilize these one year leases as they plan for the future.

“The board president mentioned that they have been here since 1982 so they’ve been a tenant for a long time with the city. As we look forward into June their current three year lease is set to expire so we wanted to look at renewing that lease. We did a one year lease for the time being because as we look forward to the building of our public safety city hall facility, we are not sure the timing of that and what that will bring. So, we just want to just continue with one year leases keeping that in mind as we move forward.”

The new lease will end on June 5th, 2026.
