The Indianola City Council met in a special session last week, discussing the Safer Streets 4 All Grant opportunity for the city, applying jointly for a federal grant through the Central Iowa Regional Transportation Agency. Indianola Mayor Steve Richardson tells KNIA News the council gave direction to city staff to apply for improvements along Highway 65/69, including the possibility of expanding the area through the city.

“Widening Highway 65/69 from Gerard, essentially the corner of Burger King on south down to Highway 92, to put in a turning lane. Essentially instead of four lanes we would go to five with a turning lane. But we have to do a number of studies and we have to go through a whole process, so it’s not something that would happen right away, it’s probably 3-4 years out.”
